Gay Marriage
A huge topic in the U.S. right now is gay marriage and whether it should be legal or illegal in the United States, a few examples of why it should not be illegal throughout the country. If you asked anyone before the early 2000’s “What is marriage?” Most if not all would say; “a male and a female staying together in a committed relationship”, or something of that sort. From that time to present time marriage has drastically changed in the nation we call the United Sates.
The most important reason of all is that gay marriage is against most religions including the top three religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. For those who read the bible, in the books: Genesis, Leviticus, Corinthians, and Romans they show that gay marriage in unnatural and abhorrent to God. Most people that are against gay marriage, and they are strong believers in God usually use this joke “God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve”. If you think about it, it’s true, in Christianity we believe that God created Adam (male) and Eve (female) to multiply and reproduce.
Another reason people say gay marriage is wrong is because they believe that gay marriage is unconstitutional. Proposition 8 states; ”Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California”. In other words the state California will not allow or support gay marriage. This is happening a lot throughout the U.S. at this moment, states banning gay marriage from happening. They allow homosexuals to be together and have children but not to be legally married. The government should not recognize gay marriage (Barr).
Last but not least, the effect of the children with having lesbian, gay, bisexual, or/and transgender (LGBT) parents. Statistics from (AACAP) show that children with LGBT parents have a very high chance of getting bullied in school. Children also show a lower self-esteem because they think that they are different from everyone else. Think about if a teacher comes up to a child with two fathers and asks him/or her to get this signed by your mother, a young child wouldn’t know what to say in this situation and he/or she would feel awkward and out of place.
People have a lot of different opinions on this topic: some support gay marriage, some don’t, and some just want to stay out of it. These are the most likely arguments you’ll hear from a person, or a group of people who do not support nor encourage the topic of gay marriage.
